I recently became addicted to pinterest.com and since then I have been pinning away many DIY ideas I can do to my home. I found a DIY cabinet stainning idea that I love and somehow I managed to find faux countertop. I decided to try it myself (surprisingly my husband let me).

I decided to start with the kids bathroom because it is small. I was too afraid to start with the kitchen because it I mess it up then I was going to be very upset with myself. But as you can see, the laminate countertop in this picture is plain and boring (and ugly).

So these are the color I used. I bought these at Michael's except for the black (the black I purchased at Walmart). I also used sand paper, Bulls Eye 1-2-3 tintable primer, Minwax Water-Based Polycrylic, and a sea sponge.

I picked up this sample granite at Lowe's just to get an idea of what I wanted my coutertops to look like.

And here we began by taping the areas we didnt want paint to get on. My husband used the sand paper to sand the counter and then after I cleaned the counter, he used the primer.

Here I used the sea sponge to dab all the colors one by one. You can see my sample on the sink. I was trying to get that same look (it ended up a bit different but very close).
This is a close up of all of the colors.

And here is our finished product with about 3 coats of the polycrylic seal. I do plan on staining the cabinets an expresso color.

Here is a before and after of my kitchen. I wanted the kitchen cabinets to be lighter so I just added a bit more of the lighter color I had. I also plan on staining the cabinets in the kitchen and probably should have done that first but I had kids first, then got married, and then went to college, so as you can see, I never do things in the right order. LOL! The idea for the countertops I got from Pretty Lil' Posies (if you follow her instructions you should be fine).
